Gardening to help us and our children grow

Social and Therapeutic Horticultural Practice

This alongside my design practice, I work as a Social and Therapeutic Horticultural practitioner. This involves working on various projects with children and infants in schools, in particular with those who may be struggling academically, or have difficulty with socialisation and self-esteem. My aim is to use Social and Therapeutic Horticulture to promote health and well being and facilitate social inclusion.

I use my skills to develop interaction and to improve mental health, to reduce feelings of isolation or exclusion, to teach new skills to improve employment, to aid with rehabilitation and stress and to promote better mobility and physical health through exercise.

Schools

I work on various outside educational areas for schools, incorporating outdoor classrooms, sensory planting hills, textured grass walkways, meadows and wildlife areas.

I also teach groups of children within schools about horticulture, integrating the curriculum into the classes that have been held inside and outdoors.

I hold a current Enhanced Disclosure Certificate (CRB).
